iPhone SDK Details Worth Knowing

Now that Apple has officially scheduled an event based around their upcoming iPhone and iPod touch SDK, several (unconfirmed) details have been surfacing. Of interest are the following:

  • The SDK may not be publicly available until the Worldwide Developer's Conference this June.
  • Already an obvious one, the applications should be distributed through iTunes.
  • Apple may have to approve applications before they are made available to download for the public, possibly resulting in delays.
  • No Dock-based accessories will be supported.
Everything has its limitations, but I really hope Apple doesn't have to approve every piece of software that comes their way. This would only cause long delays and it would become tedious over time. Either way, I cannot wait to install software on my iPhone. It will be great having the ability to try out so many new things.
